Flat grinding

For machining flat surfaces, the workpiece is mounted on a magnetic table and ground by the rotation and reciprocating motion of the grinding wheel.Flat part grinding is a machining process that uses a grinding wheel to remove material from a flat surface to create a smooth, polished finish. It's also known as Blanchard grinding or rotary surface grinding.

How it works

1> A grinding wheel with abrasive particles spins at high speed

The wheel removes small chips from the surface of the part

The process creates a flat surface with a fine finish

2> Applications

Flat part grinding is used to finish metal parts

It can be used to remove irregularities from flat plates or parts

It's effective for smoothing and grinding large, flat surfaces

3> Types of grinding wheels

4> Bonded superabrasive wheel

Used for fine grinding, this wheel removes material by micro-grooving or cutting

Loose abrasive in a liquid mixture

Used for lapping, this mixture kneads, abrades, chips, or scrapes away material

Types of grinding machines orbital grinder, horizontal spindle/reciprocating table, horizontal spindle/rotary table, vertical spindle/reciprocating table, and vertical spindle/rotary table.

External cylindrical grinding

For machining cylindrical or conical outer surfaces, the workpiece rotates and the grinding wheel performs a feed motion.

Internal cylindrical grinding

For machining cylindrical or conical inner surfaces, the grinding wheel rotates and performs a feed motion, and the workpiece is fixed or rotating.

Centerless grinding

For machining cylindrical workpieces, the workpiece is not fixed, and is supported and driven to rotate by the guide wheel and grinding wheel.

These methods are suitable for different workpiece shapes and processing requirements.
